Eighties-style hip hop flow, Blondie-fashion disco-punk, plus the kind of electro-psychodelism Deee-lite made popular : Creature sets the tone right from the opening track, Who’s hot, Who’s not. Somewhere between Prince and the B-52s, the group likes energy and catchy tunes. The tracks unfold at the speed of light : Pop Culture, with its high-pitched voices and unstoppable guitar riff, Don’t be Afraid, with its jubilant pop, or the really rocking Alive, an invigorating anthem to old peoples’ vitality.
In this crazy atmosphere, the height of rococo is definitely reached with the jubilant Brigitte Bardot, in which a chorus designed for the stadium mixes with a Kool & The Gang-style groove and trumpet breaks. Toes and feet get moving under the rallying cry : "Dance as if no one was looking!"
At times, the tremendous Creature hit-machine lowers the tone with the hypnotic It’s over and the deliciously overplayed Property, fit for a stage musical. Far from serious, sometimes a bit predictable, No Sleep at All makes it clear that with Creature’s uplifting remedies, bedtime is a long way away.
